Semnopithecus pileatus was named by Blyth (1843) [non Simia sinicus pileatus Kerr 1792, recombined as Macacus pileatus by Allen 1895]. It is extant.
It was recombined as Macacus pileatus by Owen (1853); it was recombined as Trachypithecus pileatus by Osterholz et al. (2008) and Su and Jablonski (2009).
