Acanthoscapha was named by Ulrich and Bassler (1923) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl P l Sepkoski's reference number: 77,1066]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Beecherellidae by Kozur (1970), Becker and Wang (1992), Forel (2017), Tanaka (2018).
