Atriculicoides macrophthalmus

Taxonomy

Atriculicoides macrophthalmus was named by Remm (1976). Its type specimen is PIN 3130/118, an exoskeleton (female), and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Taimyr amber, Yantardakh Hill (PIN collection 3130), which is in a Santonian terrestrial amber in the Kheta Formation of the Russian Federation. It is the type species of Atriculicoides.

It was recombined as Protoculicoides macrophthalmus by Szadziewski et al. (2016), Szadziewski (2018).

Synonyms

Atriculicoides squamiciliatus was named by Remm (1976). Its type specimen is PIN 3130/119, an exoskeleton (female), and it is an inclusion in amber. It was synonymized subjectively with Atriculicoides macrophthalmus by Szadziewski (1996), Borkent and Wirth (1997), Borkent (2013), Borkent and Dominiak (2020).
