Taxonomy
Megacercopis optima was named by Cockerell (1925). Its type specimen is USNM 69604, a tegmen, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Kudia River, which is in a Burdigalian lacustrine - small shale/diatomite in the Russian Federation. It is the type species of Megacercopis.
