Nesodon ovinus was named by Owen (1846).

It was recombined as Adinotherium ovinum by Ameghino (1894) and Ameghino (1907).

It was synonymized subjectively with Adinotherium ovinum by Ameghino (1904).

Adinotherium ferum was named by Ameghino (1887). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Puesto Estancia La Costa, which is in a Santacrucian terrestrial claystone/sandstone in the Santa Cruz Formation of Argentina.

It was synonymized subjectively with Adinotherium ovinum by Scott (1912).
Acrotherium mutabile was named by Mercerat (1891).
