Plafkerium was named by Pessagno et al. (1979) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi Tr Nori-u Sepkoski's reference number: 754].

It was assigned to Capnuchosphaeridae by Carter (1993); and to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
