Taxonomy
Thoracotrema zonale was named by Rasnitsyn (1993). Its type specimen is PIN 3559/651, a forewing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Bon Tsagaan (PIN collection 3559, outcrop 45/19), which is in an Aptian lacustrine siliciclastic in the Dzun-Bain Formation of Mongolia.
