Palaeopsyche secundum was named by Sobczyk and Kobbert (2009). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber, Staatliches Museum fur Naturkunde (SMNS) collection, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in the Russian Federation. It is the type species of Baltopsyche, Palaeopsyche, Sucinopsyche.
It was recombined as Baltopsyche secundum by Sohn et al. (2012); it was recombined as Sucinopsyche secundum by Sobczyk (2011), Sohn and Lamas (2013).
