Taxonomy
Ponera leptocephala was named by Emery (1891). Its type specimen is MMUB 16618, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Sicilian amber (Bologna coll), which is in a Miocene terrestrial amber in Italy.
