Taxonomy
Pseudomyrmex avitus was named by Ward (1992). Its type specimen is MCZ PSW-DA30, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (Poinar coll), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
