Serromyia ryszardi was named by Borkent (1990). Its type specimen is MZ 16110, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber (Museum Ziemi collection), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Poland.
