Tama minor was named by Wunderlich (1987). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (Wunderlich collection), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
It was recombined as Prototama minor by Penney (2006), Dunlop et al. (2013).
