Aleyrodes was named by Latreille (1796). It is extant. It is the type genus of Aleyrodidae, Aleyrodinae.

It was assigned to Hemiptera by Latreille (1796); to Aphidii by Latreille (1802); and to Aleyrodinae by Manzari and Quicke (2006).
