Polypodiidites was named by Potonié (1966). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon.

It was assigned to Polypodiaceae by Ross (1949), Barreda et al. (2012), Stiles et al. (2020), Vera et al. (2022); and to Buxales by Perez Loinaze et al. (2023).
