Taxonomy
Ginkgoites was named by Seward (1919) [Type species: Ginkgoites obovata (Nathorst) Seward 1919. Orden GINKGOALES Engler 1897]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Ginkgoites obovata.

It was assigned to Ginkgophyta by Dobruskina (1995); to Ginkgoaceae by Andrews (1970), Liu et al. (1996); and to Ginkgoales by Seward (1919), Lakhanpal et al. (1976), Holmes (1982), Chandra and Tewari (1991), Andruchow-Colombo et al. (2022).
