Pseudoctenis was named by Seward (1911) [Type Species: Pseudoctenis eathiensis (Richard) Seward 1911]. It is not extant. Its type is Pseudoctenis eathiensis.
It was assigned to Cycadophyta by Andrews (1970); to Nilssoniaceae by Holmes (1982); and to Cycadales by Lakhanpal et al. (1976), Chandra and Tewari (1991), Nielsen (2005).
