Dasymutilla was named by Ashmead (1899). It is extant. It is the type genus of Dasymutillini.
It was assigned to Mutillidae by Ashmead (1899), Manley and Poinar (1991); to Sphaeropthalmini by Brothers (2003); and to Dasymutillini by Brothers and Lelej (2017), Waldren et al. (2023).
