Taxonomy
Apis armbrusteri was named by Zeuner (1931) [Neotype]. Its type specimen is SMNS 64675, an exoskeleton (complete bee), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Randeck Maar (SMNS coll), which is in a MN 5 crater lake lime mudstone in the Randeck Maar Formation of Germany.

It was recombined as Apis (Apis) armbrusteri by Zeuner and Manning (1976); it was recombined as Apis (Cascapis) armbrusteri by Engel (1999), Engel et al. (2009), Takahashi and Takahashi (2025).
