Taxonomy
Synapis petrefacta was named by Říha (1973). Its type specimen is NMP P-399/400, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Jesuitengraben, near Kundratice, which is in a Rupelian lacustrine claystone in Czechia.
It was recombined as Apis petrefacta by Engel (1998), Engel et al. (2009); it was recombined as Apis (Synapis) petrefacta by Nel et al. (1999), Engel (1999), Takahashi and Takahashi (2025).
