Monophlebus pinnatus was named by Germar and Berendt (1856). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber, Berendt collection, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Poland.
It was recombined as Matsucoccus pinnatus by Koteja (1984), Koteja (1986), Foldi (2005).
