Bibiopsis volgeri was named by Von Heyden (1859). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Rott (Von Dechen Bonn coll.), which is in a MP 30 lacustrine - large lignite in Germany.
It was recombined as Penthetria volgeri by Fitzgerald (2004); it was recombined as Plecia volgeri by Statz (1943) and Skartveit and Wedmann (2021).
