Taxonomy
Ptilorhynchia was named by Crickmay (1933) [Sepkoski's age data: J Aale K Apti Sepkoski's reference number: 1094]. Its type is Ptilorhynchia plumasensis.

It was assigned to Discinidae by Crickmay (1933); to Piarorhynchiinae by Williams et al. (2002); and to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002).
