Taxonomy
Mactra planulata was named by Conrad (1837). It is extant.

It was recombined as Spisula (Hemimactra) planulata by Packard (1916); it was recombined as Spisula planulata by Vedder and Norris (1963); it was recombined as Simomactra planulata by Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012), Hendy (2021).
