Proterosceliopsis was named by Ortega-Blanco et al. (2014). Its type is Proterosceliopsis masneri. It is the type genus of Proterosceliopsidae.
It was assigned to Scelionidae by Ortega-Blanco et al. (2014); and to Proterosceliopsidae by Talamas et al. (2019), Chen et al. (2021).
