Taxonomy
Prothomomys warrenensis was named by May et al. (2011). Its type specimen is UCMP 320186, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Warren, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in the Horned Toad Formation of California. It is the type species of Prothomomys.
