Ichneumon gigas was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant.

It was recombined as Sirex gigas by Linnaeus (1761), Linnaeus (1767), Fabricius (1775), Müller (1776); it was recombined as Urocerus gigas by Böcher (1995).
