Archohelia gardnerae was named by Vaughan (1941). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lisbon Formation, Washington County, which is in a Bartonian marine horizon in the Lisbon Formation of Alabama.
It was recombined as Petrophyllia gardnerae by Kiessling (2008).
