Taxonomy
Pekania occulta was named by Samuels and Cavin (2013). Its type specimen is JODA 15214, a maxilla, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pekania occulta type locality, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial siltstone in the Rattlesnake Formation of Oregon.
