Taxonomy
Mustela pennanti was named by Erxleben (1777). It is extant.

It was corrected as Mustela pennantii by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Martes pennanti by Hay (1914), Hay (1924), Hay (1930), Hall (1936), Kurten and Anderson (1980) and Marmi et al. (2004); it was recombined as Pekania pennanti by Samuels and Cavin (2013).
