Subhyracodon mitis
Taxonomy
Aceratherium mite was named by Cope (1875) [report for 1893, published 1894]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Horsetail Creek, which is in a Chadronian terrestrial horizon in the White River Formation of Colorado.
It was recombined as Caenopus mitis by Cope (1880), Hay (1902), Osborn and Matthew (1909), Cope and Matthew (1915), Troxell (1921), Wood (1927), Wood (1929), Stock (1933) and Scott (1941); it was recombined as Subhyracodon mitis by Lucas et al. (1981), Prothero and Manning (1987), Prothero (2005) and Albright et al. (2019).
It was recombined as Caenopus mitis by Cope (1880), Hay (1902), Osborn and Matthew (1909), Cope and Matthew (1915), Troxell (1921), Wood (1927), Wood (1929), Stock (1933) and Scott (1941); it was recombined as Subhyracodon mitis by Lucas et al. (1981), Prothero and Manning (1987), Prothero (2005) and Albright et al. (2019).
