Taxonomy
Plecia macilenta was named by Skartveit and Pika (2014). Its type specimen is ETHZ Pl. I 853, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Oeningen (Zurich collection), which is in a Sarmatian crater lake limestone in the Upper Freshwater-Molasse Formation of Germany.
