Orites scleromorpha
Taxonomy
Orites scleromorpha was named by Jordan et al. (1998) [Type locality: Early Oligocene sediments on the Lea River, north-western Tasmania.
Other specimens examined: Lea 1757, Lea 1758, Lea 2749-Lea 2753.]. It is not extant. Its type specimen is Holotype: Lea 1554 stored in the Department of Plant Science, University of Tasmania., a leaf. Its type locality is Lea River, which is in an Oligocene terrestrial siltstone in Australia.

Multiseriate adaxial hypodermis of elongate sclerenchyma cells, 1–2 seriate abaxial hypodermis of short, scarcely thickened cells arranged tangentially around stomata to form a reticulum. Epidermal cells almost isodiametric, less than half the length of the subsidiary cells, stomata scarcely longer than broad. |
