Musgraveinanthus alcoensis
Taxonomy
Musgraveinanthus alcoensis was named by Christophel (1984) [Holotype: Specimen AF069, prepared and housed as AF069A (main inflorescence), AF069B (separate flower pair from base of main axis) AF069C (slide of remaining
unmacerated pollen sac) and AF069D (slide of three pollen grains recovered from
macerated pollen sacs). Paratype: Specimen AF070. All specimens are housed in the Palaeobotany Collection, Botany Department, Adelaide University.
Type locality: Anglesea, Victoria.]. It is not extant. It is the type species of Musgraveinanthus.

D. C. Christophel 1984 | Flowers paired, arranged spirally on the inflorescence axis at a density of c. 12 pairs per centimetre on a mature axis. Each pair subtended by three persistent bracts. Two lateral bracts c. 0 5 mm long by 0.2 mm wide and the central bract c. 0.3 mm long by 0.2 mm
wide. Each flower apparently sessile with a solitary, superior ovary with a straight style, 7-10 mm in length, and a clavate stigma. Each flower possessing three free, elongate hypogynous glands c. 1 mm in length with a swollen apex. Hypogynous glands adaxial to the ovary base. Perianth four partite, valvate and partially fused in bud, freely deciduous after opening. Androecium with reniform pollen sacs c. 400 pm along the long axis. Pollen grains biporate, crescent-shaped, slightly scabrate, 18 by 4 pm in equatorial view. |
