Taxonomy
Banksieaephyllum attenuatum was named by Hill and Christophel (1988). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is Holotype: LA-005, stored in the Department of Plant Science, University of Tasmania., a leaf (Cuticle), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Loch Aber - Banksieae, which is in an Eocene/Eocene terrestrial mudstone in Australia.

R. S. Hill and D. C. Christophel 1988 | Leaves bilateral, serrate. Serrations small, with rounded apex and sinus. Leaf base cuneate, apex attenuate. Leaf length at least 6 cm, width up to 1.5 cm. Secondary venation craspedodromous, one secondary vein per serration. Intersecondary veins prominent, common. Stomata brachyparacytic, superficial. Trichome bases associated with two to six epidermal cells common on stomatiferous epidermis. Trichomes bicellular, basal trichome cell thickly cutinized, cylindrical, apical trichome cell thinly cutinized, tapering. Trichome bases not observed on non-stomatiferous epidermis. |
