Eucryphia mucronata was named by Barnes and Jordan (2000) [Type Locality: Early Oligocene sediments at Wilson’s Creek, near Tarraleah, central Tasmania.]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is Holotype: WC-33, stored in the School of Plant Science, University of Tasmania. and is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Wilson's Creek, which is in an Eocene/Oligocene terrestrial siltstone/sandstone in Australia.
