Taxonomy
Banaraphyllum ovatum was named by Berry (1937). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type locality is Cerro Funes, which is in a Paleocene terrestrial claystone in Argentina.

E. W. Berry 1937 | Leaves of medium size, ovate-acuminate in outline, with rounded base and extended tip. Margins with small, uniform, closely spaced crenate teeth. Length about 7 cm. Maximum width, in the lower half of the leaf about 3.75 cm. Petiole not preserved. Midvein of medium size and prominence. The basal secondaries or lateral primaries are about the same prominence as the midvein from which they at angles of 45° or less at its extreme base; they are ascending and curved to the upper half of the leaf where they join lateral branches from the lowermost true secondaries; the latter are few in number, widely spaced, sweepingly curved and camptodrome. Regularly spaced camptodrome laterals are given off from the outside of the lateral primaries. The internal tertiaries are thin, closely spaced and mostly transversely precurrent. |
