Taxonomy
Lomatia novaezelandiae was named by Pole (1997). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is TARA-35, a cuticle. Its type locality is J38/f77, which is in a Paleocene terrestrial claystone in New Zealand.

Outer cuticular surface smooth, lacking striate surface ornamentation, but drawn into elongate ridges about the width of isodiametric epidermal cells below, but covering several in length. Stomates in general aligned; guard cells with raised rims of cuticle above. Trichomes numerous, associated with 1-4 epidermal cells (2 most common). Epidermal cells with no signs of buttressing. |
