Taxonomy
Polygonum was named by Linnaeus (1753) [Periporate, reticulate. The type illustrated shows thick undulating muri.]. It is extant. It is considered to be a form taxon.

It was assigned to Polygonaceae by Linnaeus (1759), Knowlton (1919), Van der Hammen and Gonzales (1960), Lakhanpal et al. (1976), Chauhan (1991), Liu et al. (1996) and Huang et al. (2021).
