Echitriporites variabilis was named by Jaramillo and Dilcher (2001) [Type locality: Piñalerita Creek near Sabanalarga. PaleoDB number 28866.
Paratypes: UFP 37, 14.1 x 105.1.
]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is UFP 42, 87.8 x 5.7, a microspore (Pollen grain).
