Taxonomy
Vulpes mathisoni was named by Geraads et al. (2015). Its type specimen is Kib-188-6, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cholo, which is in a Zanclean terrestrial horizon in the Mursi Formation of Ethiopia.
