It was assigned to Paxylommatidae by Kasparyan (1988) and Kasparyan (2001); and to Hybrizontinae by Wahl (2014).
Pachylommatoidae was named by Förster (1862). It is extant.

It was corrected as Paxylommatidae by Kasparyan (2001); it was synonymized subjectively with Hybrizontinae by Wahl (2014); it was reranked as the subfamily Paxylommatinae by van Achterberg (1999) and Khalaim (2014).

It was assigned to Ichneumonoidea by Kasparyan (2001); and to Ichneumonidae by van Achterberg (1999) and Khalaim (2014).
