Taxonomy
Sanmai kongi was named by Chen et al. (2016). Its type specimen is STMN48-1800, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Daohugou (STMN collection), which is in a Callovian/Oxfordian lacustrine - large shale in the Daohugou Formation of China.
