Dipteronotus was named by Egerton (1854) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen Tr Carn Sepkoski's reference number: 1038,1066]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Colobodontidae by Martin (1980), Martin (1982); to Cleiothrolepididae by Bürgin (1992); to Perleidiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Perleididae by Tintori et al. (2016).
