Taxonomy
Cupes distinctissimus was named by Kirejtshuk et al. (2016). Its type specimen is MNHN.F.A51118, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Menat southeast outcrop (MNHN collection), which is in a Selandian crater lake diatomite in the Menat Formation of France.
