Ecnomus cretacia was named by Wichard and Azar (2018). Its type specimen is Azar 574-C, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Lebanese amber, Mdeyrij-Hammana (LU collection), which is in a Barremian terrestrial amber in Lebanon.
