Ismarinae was named by Thomson (1858). It is extant.

It was reranked as the family Ismaridae by Archibald et al. (2018), Rasnitsyn and Öhm-Kühnle (2020).

It was assigned to Diapriae by Schlüter (1978), Perrichot and Nel (2008); and to Diaprioidea by Archibald et al. (2018), Rasnitsyn and Öhm-Kühnle (2020).
