Taxonomy
Scolopax melanoleuca was named by Gmelin (1789). It is extant.

It was recombined as Totanus melanoleucus by Hay (1930), Wetmore (1940), Miller and DeMay (1942), Wetmore (1956), Jehl (1967), Campbell (1976); it was recombined as Totanus melanoleucas by Campbell (1979); it was recombined as Tringa melanoleuca by Steadman et al. (2015), Clements et al. (2017).
