Taxonomy
Tetrao nigricollis was named by Gmelin (1789). It is extant. Its type locality is Mare aux Songes swamp (Sauzier collection), which is in a Holocene mire/swamp peat in Mauritius.
It was recombined as Turnix nigricollis by Goodman and Ravoavy (1993), Goodman et al. (2013) and Clements et al. (2017).
