Taxonomy
Awashia suwai was named by Vrba (1997). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Middle Awash - Matabaietu fm., which is in a Zanclean/Pleistocene fluvial horizon in the Matabaietu Formation of Ethiopia.
