Taxonomy
Koonwarrus katya was named by Rasnitsyn and Öhm-Kühnle (2019). Its type specimen is NMVP 103324, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is NMVPL425, Koonwarra, which is in an Aptian pond claystone/siltstone in Australia. It is the type species of Koonwarrus.
